Scotland Winter 2021

I found myself in cold, wet Scotland during the winter of 2021. COVID was seemingly paused after our summer and I was still unsure of flying overseas. So, I figured “why not Scotland?”

Scotland has always appealed to me with its rugged environment and isolation. So, we loaded up the car and drove north of the Trossachs area where we stayed in a lovely log cabin near Killin. The cabin was surrounded by bird and squirrel feeders which attracted animals from the entire area it seemed. We would regularly see 20+ birds at a time flock to the feeder. Red Squirrels also were in abundance and had no fear of the birds. The squirrels would sit side-by-side with the birds.

The cabin was a 15 minute walk from the Falls of Dochart and the town of Killin. The Falls have attracted people for hundreds of years. It sits on the lower base of Loch Tay which extends from Killin up to Kenmore in the North East. From Kenmore, the river flows further North East to Aberfeldy where there is a nice Scotch Whisky distillery you can tour.

After a week of remote isolation we drove down to Edinburgh to re-join society, enjoy lots of bad food and some entertainment. It actually snowed while we were there which added a bit to the experience.
